- Pilots Demand Grounding Of Air India Boeing 787 Fleet Over Technical Failures | FIP Urges DGCA Audit

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) on Friday demanded the Civil Aviation Ministry to ground all Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft of Air India.
After two incidents in a week, FIP demanded an inspection of the electrical system and a special audit of Air India by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
FIP President Captain CS Randhawa has written a letter to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu in this matter. FIP represents 5,000 pilots. The ministry has not yet given any reply.
FIP said-

The frequency of faults in aircraft is increasing, especially after maintenance by new engineers. Minimum Equipment List (MEL) release and checking for repetitive snags are essential.
Actually, this demand has been made due to the malfunction of Boeing 787 planes twice in a week.
October 9: Vienna-Delhi flight AI 154 had to be diverted to Dubai.
Air India flight AI154, going from Vienna, Austria to Delhi, was landed in Dubai due to a technical glitch. According to the airline, after checking the flight, clearance was given for take off again. The flight departed from Dubai at 8.45 am. All passengers are safe. The autopilot, ILS, flight directors and flight control systems in the plane had failed.
4 October: Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployed during landing on Amritsar-Birmingham flight AI 117

Air India flight AI-117 (Boeing Dreamliner 787-8) going from Amritsar to Birmingham, England, made an emergency landing at Birmingham Airport on October 4. The flight took off from Amritsar at 12:52 pm and reached Birmingham about 10 hours 45 minutes later.
Before landing, the aircraft’s Ram Air Turbine (RAT) automatically activated, after which the pilot made a precautionary emergency landing. Air India said that all passengers and crew are completely safe. Read the full news…
FIP is demanding since Ahmedabad accident
Since the crash of Ahmedabad to London Gatwick flight AI171 during takeoff in June 2025, questions are being raised regarding the safety of the company and passengers. 270 people died in this accident. Since then, FIP has been demanding an investigation into the Boeing 787’s electrical system.

Former CM Vijay Rupani also died in plane crash
Air India flight number AI 171 was going from Ahmedabad to London. There were a total of 230 passengers on board, including 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and one Canadian citizen. These included 103 men, 114 women, 11 children and 2 infants. The remaining 12 were crew members. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also died in the accident.
