Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Tuesday that 4 new railway projects have been approved in the meeting.

The Union Cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A total of Rs 24,634 crore projects have been approved. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that 4 new railway projects have been approved in the meeting.

This includes the 237 km long fourth line on the Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina route of Madhya Pradesh and the 259 km long and fourth line on the Vadodara-Ratlam route connecting Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Vaishnav told,

Will cover 18 districts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. Seven railway corridors in India handle 41% of the total railway traffic, and these projects will strengthen the capacity and connectivity of these corridors.

Vaishnav said that neither projects will not only increase the capacity of rail operation but will reduce the crowd, save time and improve the reliability of railway services. He said, “We have decided that at least four lines will be built in these corridors and where it will be possible, six lines will be made.

These projects included-

  • Gondia – Dongargarh: Fourth line, 84 km (Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh)
  • Vardha – Bhusaval: Third and fourth lines, 314 km (Maharashtra)
  • Vadodara – Ratlam: Third and fourth lines, 259 km (Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh)
  • Itarsi – Bhopal – Bina: Fourth line, 237 km (Madhya Pradesh)
