Notorious Ramniranjan Kol alias Raja Kolandar, who is serving life sentence in kidnapping and brutal murder cases, will not be able to come out of jail despite the release order. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment in two cases, while release has been ordered in only one case. In such a situation, for now he will remain behind the bars.

Approval from Governor, but not complete release The order for the release of Raja Kolandar was issued by the government on September 4 after the approval of the Governor. This order was issued under Section 2 of the Uttar Pradesh Prisoners Release on Probation Act, 1938 and related rules. Senior Superintendent of District Jail Unnao, Pankaj Kumar Singh said that his release is not possible at the moment due to life imprisonment in two cases. His release order has been issued in the same case. In such a situation, he will remain in jail.
Accused of 14 murders and sentenced to life imprisonment Raja Kolandar is a resident of Hinauti village of Shankargarh police station area of Prayagraj. He is accused of the brutal murder of 14 people. In 2012, the court had sentenced him to life imprisonment in the journalist Dhirendra Singh murder case in Prayagraj. Apart from this, five months ago, life imprisonment was given in another double murder and kidnapping case in Lucknow.
In jail for more than 25 years Raja Kolandar has been in jail for almost 25 years. He has so far served 23 years, 10 months, 27 days of mandatory sentence and 27 years, three months, three days of avoidable sentence. According to the government order, there was a preparation to release him conditionally under the supervision of his son Naveen Kumar, but due to his conviction in another case, he will now remain in jail.
These were the conditions of conditional release The prison administration had allowed conditional release to Raja Kolandar on license. Under this, he had to live under the supervision of his guardian Naveen Kumar. It was mandatory for him to follow all the rules regarding residence, employment and conduct. On violation of any condition, the state government could cancel the license and send him back to jail.

Anger and fear in the journalist family There is deep anger among the family members of journalist Dhirendra Singh over the news of Raja Kolandar’s release order. His elder brother Virendra Singh said that the release of the cannibal who brutally killed 14 people is a wrong message to the society. He has sent a letter to the Governor, Chief Minister and Defense Minister demanding reconsideration of the order. Virendra told that after the murder of Dhirendra on December 14, 2000, the police had recovered many human skeletons at the behest of the accused. Human skulls were also recovered from his piggery farm house.
Son said, there should be death sentence Journalist Dhirendra’s son Sandeep said that Kolandar was not just his father’s murderer. He also took the lives of many other innocent people like him. Such a person does not deserve any kind of mercy. He should be given death sentence.
Wife and son have also passed away Journalist Dhirendra Singh’s wife Neena Singh and younger son Rahul have passed away. The family now has son Sandeep and daughter Neha. Neha is married and Sandeep lives in his native village Bashara (Shankargarh) and does farming. Brother Virendra Singh told that only six months after Dhirendra’s murder, his wife Neena died in a road accident. Even today the family has not been able to recover from that pain.
