In fact, Muhammad Nishad Cherrathala and his wife took a loan from the bank. In return, his house was mortgaged, but he was unable to repay the loan. He sought more time to repay the loan from the bank, but the bank seized his house in the Sarfaesi Act.
The entire items of Nishad and his cat also got locked in the house. Nishad then sought help from the Loan Recovery Tribunal (Ernakulam) and asked to stop the action, but the tribunal denied help.
Nishad filed a petition in the Magistrate Court. The court appointed the Advocate Commissioner. Instructed Nishad that the bank should pay an amount of ₹ 7.5 lakh, but could not pay the Nishad amount.
After this, Nishad turned to the Kerala High Court. Told the court that my children are minors, studying in school. Their studies and my cats are locked in the house.

September 2: Action postponed due to smell in Kerala High Court

The Kerala High Court has ordered the State Bank of India (SBI) to return the borrower’s cat from his house. The cat was stuck inside the house on which the bank took possession of the loan.
The petitioner said that his cat was stuck inside the house.
He also asked the court to stop the action to collect loans against his house.

The bank must first check whether the cat is really trapped or not.
If the cat is found stuck, it should be assigned to the borrower without delay.
The bank will have to report it to the court by 6 October 2025.
