In Karnataka, Siddaramaiah was sworn in as Chief Minister on 20 May 2023 and DK Shivkumar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah once again rejected the discussions of changing CM in the state. He said that there is no vacancy for this post in the state, as they are still sitting on the chair. Siddaramaiah has claimed that he will complete a 5 -year term as Chief Minister.

For some time, a team of MLAs in Karnataka had asked DK Shivkumar to be made the Chief Minister. After which the discussions of taking charge of Shivkumar started gaining momentum by the end of the year.

Siddaramaiah is in Delhi today, where he will meet the other senior Congress leaders including Congress President Kharge and Sonia-Rahul.

Shivkumar was the contender for the post of CM after the assembly elections

After the results of the assembly elections were declared in May 2023, there was a tough competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar for the post of Chief Minister, and the Congress later succeeded in convincing him and made him Deputy Chief Minister.

At that time some reports claimed that the agreement was reached on the basis of the rotational Chief Minister formula, according to which Shivkumar would become CM after two and a half years, but the party did not officially confirm this.

DK has spoken himself- I have no option except support

Amid discussions of making himself CM, Deputy CM Siddaramaiah had said that he had no objection and will support Siddaramaiah. Will support them. DK indicated that he had no choice but to support Siddaramaiah.
