The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the petition which demanded making rules to suspend or block social media accounts across the country.
The petitioners wanted social media companies to maintain a clean process, transparency and balance in suspending or blocking accounts.
The bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta asked under Article 32 how can access to WhatsApp be called a fundamental right.
The bench also said that a native messaging app has recently been launched, which the petitioners can use.
The court also suggested that if the petitioners wish, they can also take the matter to the lower court.

Increase of up to 100 times in indigenous app Aarttai
The Supreme Court had actually mentioned Zoho’s new messaging app ‘Arattai’. The downloads of this app increased 100 times in September. By October 3, it had been downloaded 75 lakh times. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and industrialist Anand Mahindra have also started using this app.
