One woman says to another woman – He used to play in the courtyard of our house. One day he had a slight cold and cough. When the weather changes, it happens to the children, then we came to know that he is admitted in Nagpur. After that he never returned alive. We were surprised.

Hearing this the other woman says,

Even near my house, his parents took a child to the doctor. There is no trust in the government hospital, so the child was taken to a private hospital by paying Rs 300. The doctor prescribed such a medicine that he started vomiting. They took him to Nagpur, then he never returned.
This conversation took place between two women traveling in a sharing auto in Parasia in Chhindwara district. The topic of conversation among the other women traveling in this auto is also the death of children. Bhaskar reporter is also traveling in the same auto. In fact, at present everyone in Persia is only talking about the deaths of children due to drinking cough syrup.
The government has ordered an investigation into this entire matter. Action has been taken against those responsible. There has been politics on this, but the death toll of children is continuously increasing. So far 19 children have died.

Condition worsened in three days due to deadly cold sore Adnan, 5 years and 8 months old son of Amin Khan, who lives in Newton near Parasia, had fever on August 21. The same day his parents took him to Dr. Praveen Soni. Dr. Soni prescribed Coldrif, the syrup of death. Which started showing its effect only after three days. Adnan had fever again on 24th August.
Adnan’s mother became worried when the fever did not subside. She took him again to Dr. Praveen Soni on 25th August, but by 27th his condition had worsened. He started having stomach ache and vomiting. After this the family got scared and went to the doctor again. This time when the doctor gave a vial to test his urine, Adnan could not urinate even two drops.
After this, the family kept wandering with Adnan from Chhindwara District Hospital to Nagpur hospitals. The family took a loan and spent Rs 7 lakh on his treatment. To get a bed in AIIMS, I even got a recommendation letter written by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but perhaps fate had something else in store.

Uncle said- He used to ask me for fruit at 2 o’clock in the night. Adnan’s uncle Tehseen Khan says, ‘I stayed in the hospital with my nephew for 11 days. At 2 o’clock in the night he would tell me that I have to drink Frooti. I would say that we will drink when the shop opens in the morning. I used to give him two sips of water to drink. On September 7, the day he breathed his last, I was present there. I was looking at the monitor attached to his body. His breathing was becoming labored and the monitor started making loud noises.
I immediately went to the doctors. The doctors sent me out and started giving him CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), which means his heart had stopped working. I was watching everything. I have seen my child suffering. The doctors tried hard, but after some time they came out and said – Adnan is no more.

Was admitted in ICU, but his condition did not improve. 4 year old Usaid, who lives in Newton, Parasia, was studying in nursery. He developed fever on 25th August. The family took him to Dr. Aman Siddiqui of Parasia. Dr. Aman is an MBBS doctor and sees patients in the same clinic as Dr. Praveen Soni. Dr. Siddiqui prescribed medicines for cough, in which he also prescribed Coldrif syrup for cough. The family members came home with medicines.
Usaid’s fever subsided but there was swelling on his face and legs. Family members say that on September 6, his urination also stopped. He was first taken to Parasia Civil Hospital. When no relief was found from there, he was taken to Chhindwara District Hospital. There he remained admitted in the ICU, but even after that his condition did not improve. The doctors of the district hospital referred him to Nagpur.

Father sold auto for son’s treatment Ubed’s sonography was done at Nagpur’s Metro Hospital. In which it was found that both his kidneys had failed. He was dialyzed 3 times. Along with this, the nerves of his brain also became swollen. Doctors continued treatment, but on September 13, Usaid’s hopes were dashed. He left this world crying and crying for his family.
Father Yasin sold his auto taken on loan for his son’s treatment. When he was in Nagpur with his son, his house was flooded. The whole thing was spoiled.

3 year old Vidhi kept asking her mother – take me home Vidhi was the only daughter of Mahesh and Namita Daheria, residents of Belgaum, Parasia. Vidhi also complained of cold and cough. Showed him to Dr. Praveen Soni on 1st September. Dr. Soni prescribed the same deadly cough syrup that he was prescribing to all his patients. Mother Namita tells that she was asked to give this medicine four times a day. I gave him the dose of medicine as per the doctor.
The effect of the medicine on the method was very rapid. Mother Namita tells that she had stopped urinating on the second-third day of giving the medicine. Seeing his condition, we again went to the doctor and he asked him to go to Dr. Nahar. Dr. Nahar said to take him to Nagpur. We did not have enough budget to take him to Nagpur. We took him to the district hospital.

Father said- I tried my best to save the girl Vidhi’s father is a daily wage labourer. They say that Vidhi was taken to the district hospital and from there she was referred to Nagpur Medical College. Then I took money from my brothers and arranged to go to Nagpur. But by the time he reached Nagpur, his condition had worsened. He died on 5 September at Nagpur Medical College.
Asked him how much money was spent on Vidhi’s treatment? So the husband and wife said with a very clear heart that we did not have much money. We tried as much as we could to save our daughter. We could spend only the amount of money given to us by our relatives.

Divyansh underwent dialysis seven times Divyansh, a resident of Duddi village, 18 kilometers away from Parasia, was the only son of his parents. Used to study in third class. Father Prakash says that he developed fever on 16th August and brought him to Dr. Praveen Soni on 17th. He gave syrup and tablets, but there was no relief. Showed it to Dr. Soni again on 20th.
He again gave Coldrif syrup on 20th August and asked to increase its dosage. We gave him medicine throughout the day on 21st and 22nd August. After this, he started vomiting from 12 o’clock in the night. We took him directly to Chhindwara on 23rd August. Admitted to Vivanta Hospital here. The treatment continued throughout the night. Bottled and injected. From the morning of 24th August he stopped urinating.
The doctors told us that he might have a kidney infection. He referred him to Nagpur. He was admitted to Colors Hospital there. Doctors did sonography and told that both the kidneys had stopped working. He remained conscious for four days. During this period he underwent dialysis seven times.

Mother sold all her jewelery to pay for her son’s treatment Divyansh’s mother Lima said- After this, when he became unconscious, he was put on ventilator. When all our money was spent, the people of Colors Hospital referred us to the Government Medical College. Divyansh’s breathing stopped even before reaching there. He died on 1 September. We brought him back and cremated him on September 3.
Showing her deaf ears, Lima says that she sold all the jewelery she got at the wedding for her son’s treatment. The jewelery of relatives was mortgaged. We tried everything to save the child, but we could not save him. After this she starts crying. She says that my child is the first victim of this syrup of death.
After watching the news, we came to know that it was due to Coldrif syrup that the children died. Divyansh’s name was not included in the list of Chhindwara administration in which compensation is being given to children who die due to cough syrup.

Hetansh urinated but went into coma Amit Soni, father of 4 year old Hetansh, who lives in Umreth, says that he had fever on August 29. I took him to Dr. Praveen Soni the same day. He gave medicines. On August 30, he started vomiting. The same day I again took him to the doctor. The doctor also gave him syrup to make him urinate. The doctor asked how the urination was going? We had not paid attention to this.
When we saw that he did not urinate till night, we immediately took him to Nagpur. No one told us or referred us. He was admitted to New Era Child Hospital there. He remained admitted in the same hospital from September 2 to September 18. He underwent dialysis 13-14 times. During this time he started recovering.
He had started urinating again. He was responding till 13th, but after that he stopped responding. Doctors said that his brain was swollen. After this he went into coma and never returned.
