The 156th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi is being celebrated across the country on Thursday. He was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Along with him, today is the 121st birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India. He was born on 2 October 1904 in Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar (then Mughalsarai) Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh.

Mahatma Gandhi is considered the ideal of truth and non -violence. His birth anniversary has also been recognized by the United Nations as International Non -Violence Day. At the same time, Lal Bahadur Shastri is remembered for the slogan of his ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’.

He always supported the weaker sections of the society. The President urged the countrymen to follow the path of Gandhiji, serve the country and pledge to create a clean, competent, strong and prosperous India.

President Murmu said that Gandhiji gave the message of self -sufficient India through the dignity of cycle and labor. His life and ideal are still inspiration for everyone.
