According to NDTV news, UNC said- no commercial goods will be allowed to pass through the road block. The protesters have stopped trucks in Naga-dominated areas with National Highways 2 and 37.
The affected areas include commanders, Ukhrul and Tenmelong. This disrupted the supply line in other parts of Manipur, including the central valley and the southern cookie mountainous regions.

PM Modi can visit Manipur on 13 September
Prime Minister Narendra Modi can visit Manipur on 13 September. However, official confirmation is yet to be done. PM will inaugurate the railway project in Mizoram. This is Modi’s first Manipur tour after the Manipur violence.
In May 2023, ethnic violence between Maetai and Cookie communities started in Manipur. So far more than 260 people have died in this violence and thousands of people have become homeless.
Amid preparations for the tour, District Magistrate Dharun Kumar has declared a no-drain zone in Churachandpur district on Thursday. According to the order, now it will be prohibited to fly any drone, UAV, balloons or other flying devices in the district border. Churachandpur is a cookie dominated and is adjacent to Mizoram.

Why is NH-2 and 37 highways important NH-2 and 37 highways are very important for Manipur and the entire Northeast. NH2 connects Dimapur in Nagaland to Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The highway maintains Manipur-Nagaland-Mizoram’s remaining contact with India. In Manipur, needs, such as food items, medicine, fuel and business items, come from this highway. At the same time, NH37 connects Imphal to Badarpur in Assam. This makes regional transport and trade easier.
Both highways are also strategically important for the movement of army and security forces. Both work like a highway lifeline to maintain trade, tourism and mutual connections between the northeastern states.

Understand the reason for Manipur violence in 4 points … Manipur has a population of about 38 lakhs. There are three major communities here- Maetai, Naga and Cookie. Maitai is mostly Hindus. Naga-kuki believes Christianity. ST falls in class. Their population is about 50%. The Imphal Valley Metai community spread over 10% of the state’s area is dominated. The population of Naga-Kuki is around 34 percent. These people live in about 90% of the state’s areas.
- How the controversy started: The Maetai community demands that they also be given the status of tribe. The community filed a petition in the Manipur High Court for this. The community argued that Manipur was merged with India in 1949. Before that he had the status of tribe. After this, the High Court recommended the state government to include Maetai in the Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- What is the argument of Maetai: The Maetai tribe believes that years ago their kings called Myanmar to fight the war of cookie. After that they became permanent residents. These people cut forests for employment and started cultivating opium. This has created a triangle of Manipur drug smuggling. All this is happening openly. He formed Arms Group to fight the Naga people.
- Why are Naga-Kuki in opposition: The remaining two tribes are against giving reservation to the Maetai community. They say that 40 out of 60 assembly seats in the state are already in the Maetai -dominated Imphal Valley. In such a situation, there will be a distribution of their rights due to reservation for Maetai in the ST category.
- What are political equations: Out of 60 MLAs from Manipur, 40 MLAs and 20 MLAs are from Naga-Kuki tribe. So far, two of the 12 cm have been from the tribe.
