The Supreme Court will today pronounce its order on the petitions demanding a CBI investigation in the Karur stampede case. The bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and NV Anjaria had reserved the decision after the hearing on Friday.

In this hearing, the court had questioned the Tamil Nadu government as to why the TVK rally was given permission. The Court also asked how the High Court ordered the SIT investigation when the matter was within the purview of the Madurai Bench.

In fact, on September 27, 41 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in a stampede at actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. BJP leader Uma Anandan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court in the matter, demanding a CBI investigation. At the same time, the case is being heard by the bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice NV Anjariya.

The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Tamil Nadu government that when AIADMK was not allowed to hold a rally in Karur due to less space, then how was TVK allowed on September 27.

At the same time, Advocates Gopal Subramaniam and CA Sundaram, on behalf of TVK, said that the petition in the High Court was only about making SOP (Standard Procedure) for political rallies, but the Madras High Court formed the SIT on the very first day.

He said- Vijay was removed from the spot by the police due to security reasons, but the court termed it as ‘running away from the spot’, which creates a politically incorrect impression.

Here, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Tamil Nadu, said that there is no need for a CBI investigation as no major lapse on the part of the police has been proved. At the same time, Mukul Rohatgi and P Wilson said that the stampede happened because the crowd had gathered since morning, while Vijay reached at 7 in the evening.

October 4- High Court said – Party cannot escape responsibility

On October 4, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had rejected the petitions demanding a CBI investigation. At the same time, a notice was issued to the Stalin government on the petition demanding additional compensation amount. The next hearing of the case here will be on October 16.

Also, Madras High Court has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Karur stampede. It is being led by Inspector General (IG) of Tamil Nadu Police, Asra Garg.

Vijay spoke to the families of the deceased on video call.

Vijay Thalapathi had released a video on September 30. In this, Vijay said, “Is CM Stalin trying to take revenge? We did not do anything wrong. If you want to take revenge then come to me. I will meet you at home or in the office. My party officials have been arrested by the police. I appeal to the CM to please do not harm my party officials.”

Vijay till 20th October rallies stopped

Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay has postponed all political rallies till October 20, putting his statewide election campaign on hold. TVK posted information about the temporary suspension of its rallies on social media. Vijay’s party has announced a relief amount of Rs 20 lakh for the families of the deceased.

At the same time, the anticipatory bail petitions of TVK General Secretary Anand and Nirmal Kumar were also listed for hearing in the single bench of Justice Jothiraman. But this was not heard.
