The mystery of the suspicious death of Assam’s famous singer Zubin Garg is becoming increasingly complicated. Zubin, who had sung about 40 thousand songs, drowned in the sea while scuba diving in Singapore on 19 September. The first post-mortem report stated the cause of death to be drowning, but now allegations of forced drowning, poisoning and financial conspiracy have complicated the case.
On September 23, on the instructions of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the second postmortem was conducted at Guwahati Medical College, but even after 17 days the report was not made public. This has raised many doubts. CM says that making the report public will make it ‘legally invalid’.

It is being claimed that this video of singer Zubeen Garg was taken just before the accident.
Questions that complicated the investigation process
- Why did the government give 17 days to Shyamkanu to surrender? After Zubin’s death, Shyamkanu issued a video message from Singapore that there was a danger to his life if he returned to Assam. After this the government gave him time till October 6 to surrender. It is alleged that the state government has been providing financial help to Kanu earlier. He was also on the governing body of the government college.
- How can both surrender on the same day? Kanu and Zubin’s manager Siddharth surrendered in Guwahati on the same day on 2 October. Kanu had reached here from Singapore while Siddharth had reached here from Rajasthan. That day there was a program of his 11th class in Zubin’s home district Jorhat.
- Why allegations against Sarma’s wife? Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi has alleged that a company owned by CM’s wife Riniki Bhuyan was an associate in the program with Kanu. The same company Golden Thread held a fashion show in Singapore even after Zubin’s death. Therefore, there should be an investigation into Riniki. However, Riniki has filed a defamation case against Akhil.
- Where did Zubin’s property go? Kanu is accused of misused Zubin for business. Even though doctors had told Zubin to rest, Kanu took him to Singapore. Siddharth was together for 12 years. It is alleged that he established many big businesses including luxury hotels in Guwahati. Whereas Zubin was not able to complete the construction of the house for two years due to financial constraints. Only half of the accounts of his property are being received.
